Yoshida Naoki: SE will pay more attention to Xbox in the future, focusing on PS exclusive effects
Square Enix plans to launch up the ante Xbox to expand its player base
In an interview with Eurogamer, Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that the company is considering increasing its distribution on the Xbox platform. He said that the exclusive distribution model focused on the PlayStation platform in the past has led to financial decline, so the company hopes to reverse this situation with multi-platform distribution.
Naoki Yoshida singled out the Xbox launch of Final Fantasy XIV and praised the efforts of Xbox head Phil Spencer, who said the success of Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox platform provided an opportunity for Square Enix to build a deeper relationship with Xbox players.
It is worth noting that Xbox has struggled to break into the Japanese gaming market, where its main competitors PlayStation and Nintendo are both from. Naoki Yoshida believes that this factor may prevent some Japanese developers from making Xbox a priority platform.
However, Naoki Yoshida also stressed that Square Enix is adjusting its publishing policy and moving towards multi-platform distribution. He said the company wants to let as many players as possible experience their games and expand its fan base globally.
